New Edition of Expressions Literary Magazine Hits the Stands
June 1, 2023
The East Expressions committee is excited to announce that the 2023 Expressions: Literary + Arts magazine is available now. While there are limited physical copies of the newest issue of Expressions Literary Magazine, the entire publication is also online and you can read it here.
Adviser and librarian Jen Milne-Carroll explains the issue’s theme of “Boxes + Perspectives.”
“The purpose of this edition is to allow East student writers and artists to share their personal perspectives of identity and how identities can become our ‘boxes.’ This edition examines the questions:
Who are we and how did we get here? And, what happens when we shatter our perceived ‘boxes’?” Milne-Carroll said.

The issue is 93 pages in total and includes student artwork, poetry, short stories and more.
“As a committee, we know the deep and lasting value of amplifying student voice within our community, and this latest edition of Expressions is to once again celebrate the creators, artists, and visionaries from our student body at East High School. Special thanks to Ms. Barbara Davis’s students for contributing poems en Español, Art + Literature Laboratory and Madison Poet Laureate Angela Trudell Vasquez for working with and guiding our students in poetry workshops,” Milne-Carroll said.
