East’s Chess Club won again! The group hosted the 2nd Annual chess tournament at East on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. For this tournament, there is a rotating cup that the winning school each year gets to take to their home school. Since East won this tournament last year and again this year, the trophy gets to stay in club sponsor Aaron Jossart’s classroom.
“It is so wonderful to see our Purgolders come together around the game of chess, winning is the goal but the sense of community is the best part,” Jossart said.
East won by default as the only Madison High School that showed for the event, but it was still a fun and educational experience. The students competing included ninth grader Emma Tyler, sophomores Freddie Grimm, Jack Grimm Ketter, Mohamed El Nagar, senior Julian Svanoe, sophomore Nick Salus and me, ninth grader Nathalie Hughes.
