Auditions for Sister Act are Feb. 17 and 18 after school in the rehearsal studio. They also need people for tech crew to do lights, sound, costumes and makeup. Anyone interested should talk to Paul Milisch in room 1601.
Sister Act is a musical about a woman who, after witnessing a murder, is sent to a convent as part of the witness protection program. The character, named Deloris Van Cartier, is sent to work with the convent’s choir which turns into a soulful choir that gains lots of attention.
Students who are planning to audition need to have 1 minute of music prepared.
“For me, yes (auditions are scary), but it is like, ‘whatever happens, happens,’” said senior Faerie Mlatawou, who has been involved with East musicals and other theater productions four several years. “Both (choir teacher Luke Hrovat-Staedter) and (theater teacher) Paul (Milisch) are both really nice teachers, and they won’t bash you. When you’re auditioning in front of people, they’re not gonna bash you.”
Although Mlatawou said they do get stage fright at times, it is worth the stress to audition.
“I think (being a part of Eastside players is) really fun. Theater is a very welcoming community and seniors who do it, they really have fun and wish they did it earlier,” Mlatawou said.
If school is cancelled on Tuesday due to extreme cold, auditions will resume after school on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
