For the first time since 2016, East High School will host a speech tournament today, Feb. 20, where students from local schools will get to show off their public speaking skills in front of judges.
The tournament will include many competition categories, including expository speaking, solo acting and poetry. Students who score higher than 16 will move to the next tournament in Evansville, with a State tournament at UW-Madison in April.
“Speech season is really helpful for students. It allows them to work on something and get feedback to feel more comfortable speaking in public,” sponsor Paul Milisch said.
Milisch is excited about this year’s event, he said, especially since many East students will be competing for the first time.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing our students take part,” Milisch said.
