Baile Monarca, now in its second year, brings together Latinx communities from all of the MMSD schools to celebrate culture through music and dance. This year’s event is Saturday, March 22 in the spec. gym from 6-10:30 p.m. It is free, and all students and staff are invited to join in the vibrant cultural experience.
“Baile Monarca is an event that manifests the spirit of Raza United by welcoming student volunteers to choose the music,” said senior Sorimar Daniel Cruz, Raza United leader.
Raza United embraces culture, identity and social justice, fostering confidence and self-esteem.
“Raza United is committed to learning about culture, discovering identity and fighting for social justice while embodying confidence and self-worth,” said Mickey Zarate Navarrete, one of the Raza United’s advisers. “Baile Monarca reflects our mission as a club by allowing students to shape the event and support may day planning while celebrating their shared purpose.”
Baile Monarca is more than a celebration – it’s an expression of culture, unity and purpose, where students inspire one another and embrace their collective identity.
“Preparing for the event involved listening to students’ ideas and mapping out what steps were needed to make their visions possible through note-taking and spreadsheet documentation,” Zarate said.
Baile Monarca is a time to come together, celebrate culture and remind the Latinx community of the shared strength when united.
“Baile Monarca is a journey to practice weaving together students’ efforts across the MMSD district. I am most excited to see the ongoing collaborations that result from celebrating joy. Okay, and dancing to una Cumbia Sonidera,” Zarate Navarrete said.
