East’s pep band will make its debut today Friday, September 26th, for the 2025-26 school year.
East’s pep band has been around for many years, but it’s not a class. Kind of.
“All students who take a band course at East High School are automatically in the pep band,” said band teacher and pep band leader, Robert Cunningham.
Cunningham has been teaching band for 25 years and leading pep band for seven. There are many different band classes throughout the school day, but only one pep band, which is a mix of students from all of the band classes.
“We rehearse in our individual bands (classes), and we will also get together during one of our morning classes to work together. This means some students will be dismissed from one of their other classes to come to the rehearsal,” Cunningham said
It can be a challenge with 15 songs to learn and perform at various East events, but they manage.
“It’s been fun. I like playing and I like playing with my friends,” junior Giselle Tlahuextl-Toxqui said.
Pep band will be performing at the pep rally in the spec gym and football game against Middleton High School on Oct. 3 at Lussier Stadium (La Follette High School) at 7 p.m.
